In 2009 the West Midlands Leaders Board published two editions of a report entitled ‘Weathering the Storm - Preparing for Recovery’ which highlighted the findings of two local authority ‘recession’ surveys. The documents identified the key impacts of the recession being felt by local communities and also illustrated how the region’s councils were striving to support their localities against the backdrop of reduced revenue streams and significant pressures on their own budgets. To supplement the findings of these reports another qualitative survey was undertaken. |

Local Economic Assessments in the West Midlands - Rocket Science (February 2010)

This report commissioned by the West Midlands Leaders Board is intended to provide guidance to local authorities to assist them in producing their local economic assessments. It was commissioned recognising that all councils are at different stages in producing their assessments, that there are likely to be common issues that may need clarification and future support, and to ensure that individual assessments can be assembled to create a coherent picture sub-regionally and regionally to inform the single, integrated regional strategy. |
