Making a Difference
Member Development
The Leadership Roles and Responsibilities of Councillors
Introduction
This session has been built with induction for new members in mind. Existing members would benefit, however, from a 'refresher' to consider their leadership roles and responsibilities in light of the recent, Councillors Commission and Legislation (Police and Justice Act 2006, Local Government Public involvement in Health Act, etc.).
Style
This session is highly interactive, used real case studies and anecdotes to highlight leadership issues and the application of practical management skills and is delivered by training practitioner Nano Hill
Background and Objectives
The development of Councillors as effective leaders is key to the modernising agenda for Local Government as outlined in the recent White Paper. This seminar explores how Councillors can maximise their personal effectiveness in a number of key leadership roles and responsibilities: (A) Personal leadership, (B) Community leadership and (C) Corporate leadership etc... The seminar outlines different approaches to leadership, invites members to reflect on their own leadership styles, understand the qualities and styles required to reduce leadership conflicts of interest and consider practical opportunities for personal development in their new term of office
A highly practical session to improve the leadership capabilities of members delivered by Nano Hill
