OPEN Project

OPEN was a two year trans-national programme, funded through the Progress funding stream from Europe. It is was led in the West Midlands by the Leaders Board (now WMC) working with partners from Italy, Germany and Spain.

The OPEN project's key aims were:

  • To raise and encourage debate at a local, national and European level on how to best tackle issues around social exclusion.
  • To encourage Regional and European policy makers to take action and develop the agenda around social exclusion.

These were delivered by:

  • Opening up debate around social inclusion and protection issues with organisations and individuals working at grassroots level.
  • Identifying the key areas of work and taking this agenda to regional policy makers and EU Commissioners.
  • Improving communications between grassroots organisations and strategic policy makers, ensuring voices are heard and information is accessibly provided.
  • Highlighting and promoting best practice in the Region and amongst EU partners.
  • Developing dialogue with regional media to produce quality information on social issues.
