INTERREG IVB NW Europe: Working together on common challenges

West Midlands based organisations are partner in five project proposals submitted to the 9th Call of the INTERREG IVB North West Europe programme in October. Total value to the region in terms of ERDF will be, if successful, over €1.74 million. A further application was made to continue an existing initiative.

The aim of INTERREG NW Europe is to contribute to cohesive and sustainable development within the programme area, addressing through collaboration what are common challenges. Proposals submitted are broad in topic including ICT systems for waterways management, development of industrial synergies or laser application in micro-manufacturing, to support entrepreneurs in innovative industries and toward capacity building amongst SMEs. The existing MANDIE project on urban district regeneration will narrow its focus to e-mobility. INTERREG invites partners from all sectors with involvement here from Stoke-on-Trent and Birmingham City Councils, University of Birmingham, CENTRO, British Waterways and Midlands Aerospace Alliance.

Preparations are already underway toward the 10th Call in May/June 2012 – the last Call for the 2007 – 2013 budgetary period.  West Midlands European Service (WMES) has identified at least 7 potential projects with expectation that further emerge from forthcoming events. A dedicated workshop 9th December will explore with Local Authorities how this funding opportunity can be utilised and of maximum benefit for the delivery of economic and planning priorities.

On 8th December in Brussels, WMES is hosting a transnational workshop looking ahead to what the final Call will cover whilst giving opportunity for exchange on potential project ideas. This event is open to organisations from across the NW Europe area and all those interested to develop a proposal. Any organisation from the West Midlands is welcome to attend.

On 9th December in Birmingham, a simliar workshop will be held entitled "Using Interreg IVB Funds to help grow your economy". To book a place at either workshop please visit our Events page.
