West Midlands Councils Board offers a range of support and training for Councillors in the West Midlands.
West Midlands Development Charter
The West Midlands Member Development Charter sets out a standard to ensure a comprehensive approach to elected member development, which directly contributes and impacts on the performance improvement of a local authority. The Charter provides authorities an opportunity to review itself and a offers a free peer assessment, providing a detailed report on strengths and areas for improvement to all local authorities.

The 'Core Skills' programme
The 'Core Skills’ programme is a creative, innovative and cost effective programme of support for Elected Members in understanding their role in Local Area Agreements and Community Leadership. The programme modules encompass an LAA Master class, a Top Tier Workshop, Surgeries and Regional Thematic events.

The Leadership Academy
Through the Leadership Academy authorities can improve performance by developing Elected Members leadership skills by learning the latest thinking in political leadership. Upper Tier & Unitary Authorities can save at least 50%( £2700) and the 75% subsidy allowed to District & Borough Councils means they can save over £4000 of the cost. Four subsidised places are offered to each authority.
